Chichester City Car Club survey — we need your help
Who are we?
A community run project team was formed earlier this year with the support of Chichester District Council and funding won from a Defra (Department for Environment and Rural Affairs) Air Quality Grant to implement a car club in Chichester. Our plans are to make at least two cars available to members on an hourly hire basis by the middle of 2012.
The purpose of our car club is to make modern, economic and clean cars available on demand to meet the mobility needs of the Chichester community.
Why we need your help
Our project is still in the early stages and you have a great opportunity to shape how we implement this club and where the cars are located. It is imperative to the success of this scheme that we gather as much information as possible about how cars are used in Chichester and how people could make best use of a car club.
To help us achieve this we've compiled a short online survey on the County Council's website for residents and business owners in Chichester; please find the time to complete this yourself and tell others about it.
The survey results will help mould how we implement this club and help us make it as relevant and as useful as possible.
Why a car club?
Car Clubs have been successful in many UK cities both larger and smaller than Chichester. They offer a modern route to car ownership, shared with all club members. The club will have a nominal annual membership fee and cars will be charged on an hour-by-hour basis. All maintenance, insurance and fuel costs will be included in the hourly rate.
The evidence from other cities suggests members enjoy a significant saving in their annual motoring costs to the extent that some rely on a car club solely for their motoring needs. They have developed a loyal user base of people who have occasional need of a car, but don't find it essential to have a car available to them all the time.
